“One hundred religious persons knit into a unity by careful organization do not constitute a church any more than eleven dead men make a football team. The first requisite is life, always.” A. W. Tozer
Years after leaving Philippi, Paul wrote the Philippian church to encourage them (don’t fear the coming struggle), correct them (Be humble!), and feed them spiritual “meat,” instructing them to work out their salvation with fear and trembling, but reminding them it’s God at work in them.
After leaving Philippi, Paul & Co came to Thessalonica, where they preached Jesus until a mob took over. So they went to Berea where, by contrast, the people believed – and studied the Scriptures to confirm what Paul said was true – and didn’t riot.
Later, the Thessalonians needed help untangling “the Day of the Lord” – we’ll read both Paul’s letters of clarification and instructions on pleasing God in daily living.
Jesus is coming back. Together we’ll discuss what to look for!
